Data Communication Solutions (DCS) attends the Americas’ SAP Users’ Group (ASUG) and SAPPHIRE NOW event every year as SAP Gold Partners. This year’s event hosted in Orlando touched on four consistent “hot topics” sticking out in the ERP world:
- Big Data – Large amounts of data about products sold by merchants can be analyzed with the right applications, such as HANA or Hadoop. EDI brings in the data; what you do with it is your choice. Hadoop is currently used by Google, Yahoo, and Facebook to analyze user data. Retail lead the use of big data for years and other industries are catching on. With big data you are able to structure information from multiple sources, the sky the limit for future use. Two vendors in attendance claimed a sales increase of 1-2% with this high demand topic.
- Mobile2Mobile (M2M) – For cellular and tablet electronics, catalog applications promote convenient shopping at home and on-the-go to capture margin dollars from merchants. EDI directly connects to logistics cutting out the “middle man” for increased profits. SAP offers cutting-edge applications built on the mobile platform for: human resources, supply chain management, IT, and sales. SAP hopes the M2M market turns into a profit gold-mine in the future by charging for application use.
- Cloud Computing, Leased/Supported, and On-Premise Servers – Storage has become widely remote and easy to access. Although largely accepted, software as a service is not in big demand due to latency and pricing. Some vendors such as Dell offer data centers “in a box” and manager inter-application data exchange such as SAP’s ERP™ and Microsoft’s SharePoint™. However, EDI is not affected by the application’s location.
- B2B – Assembling the components to be reliable, secure, and economical is becoming far easier due to widely accepted practices of EDI amongst customers, transports, and vendors within every industry. A FREE Assessment may be just what you are looking for to start the process.
These topics, among others, were trending among SAP users at SAPPHIRE 2013, where do you think Mobile2Mobile is going?
