Data Communications Solutions’ (DCS), Vicki Gohman just returned from attending the INFOCUS annual conference held in Denver, CO. INFOCUS is an in-depth conference specifically for Oracle’s J.D. Edwards World™ or EnterpriseOne™ products for the Quest* community. Attendance was reported by Quest to be up 50% this year.
Vicki talked to many companies that either use a home grown business application or JD Edward’s World or EnterpriseOne. She learned that:
- Home grown, multi-plant users want to know where a package provides better process automation and cost containment.
- JDE users are examining the modules they do not use for automation and profit opportunities.
- Neither group is looking for “the cloud” or “big data” solutions.
Though the stock markets are in turmoil, many companies do not think they face a grim future. Instead, they think there are opportunities yet to be exploited. This year many companies also indicated that they are shopping for a new ERP system or business application to expand their capabilities. For example, consumer product companies look toward Dot.Com merchants and automotive OEM look at loading “Held” orders in Releases. Meeting big customer demands is challenging, yet it provides an opportunity to gain share.

It’s heartening to see companies ready to improve with capital budgets to improve. Does this mean that manufacturing is returning to U.S.?
