Grocery Store Giants Albertsons and Safeway to Merge

Some big changes might be happening at your neighborhood marketplace.  Bloomberg News reports two of the country’s biggest grocery stores Albertsons and Safeway are merging.  Fortunately, no stores are expected to close. So it could create a chain of 2,400 stores with a quarter million employees.’

According to Bloomberg, “The two companies say the merger will enable them to cut costs and offer competitive prices to consumers.  They hope to expand their reach amid mounting competition from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and warehouse clubs, as well as online food sellers and delivery services.”

From the EDI perspective this means you will have to combine Trading Partners.  Second, you will soon have to adapt the dot.com EDI documents you set for Amazon to meet their online service.  For example, you may need to send a daily Inventory Report (Transaction Set 846).

Data Communication Solutions (DCS) has the expertise to assist you in combining your trading partners as well as all your EDI challenges. Contact your DCS EDI Specialist or e-mail us at [email protected] for more information.
