ChainLink Research Eyes the Future of EDI

At a recent New England Electronic Commerce Users Group (NEECOM) conference DCS attended, Ann Grackin, Chief Executive Officer at ChainLink Research, presented their findings and opened our eyes to the state of EDI today and where it is headed.

Reactionary Plan

When asked what companies are doing to respond to increasingly complex integration and higher volumes, they learned that almost half have no formally articulated B2B e-commerce plan, they are just reactionary. This is balanced among all industries.

Challenges:

  • Trying to keep up with new software and installations.
  • Managing workload with understaffing.
  • ERP processes that don’t meet customer requirements.
  • Upgrading complex software that required too much time
  • Shifting priorities

Growth

The largest area of growth is found in Cloud, BPM, Middleware, and Analytics, followed by security and encryption, as well as secure/managed file transfer. There is low growth in EDI VANs.

New Era

ChainLink has found a new era of Business and Information Models allowing flexibility and performance under extreme conditions with virtual integration allowing for shared services and functions to work together as one. EDI demonstrates process control over an extended supply network to reduce risk and ensure authentication and authorization of products, as well as solutions that operate seamlessly across company boundaries with highly synchronized data. Companies will be able to transform their operations to capture, manage and verify, track and trace, sense and serialize.

Thank you for your contributions to the NEECOM conference, ChainLink!
