The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) has updated their fields and codes for the automotive industry when it comes to many EDI documents. This amendment makes the process more efficient for you and your key customers. The rebound or evolution well underway means that all Tiers are updating their EDI systems and then adding more fields and codes.
For example, the Releases (X12 830 or EDIFACT DELFOR) Forecast Qualifier now has more codes:
- Immediate
- Pilot/Prevolume
- Firm
- Planning
- Rounded Container Quantity
- Potential Order Increase
- Average Plant Usage
- First Time Reported Firm
- Engineering Change Pending
- Prototype
- Order Release Authorization
- Cancellation
- Modification
- And more!
Similar improvements have been made to other records and fields, such as the item line. Fortunately, most of the changed codes, fields, and records are defined the same for the: Shipping Schedule (862), Shipment Notice (856), and Receiving Advice (861). The changes are straightforward, but not trivial.
The greater precision has benefits, but also means adaptation of business applications then mini-training. The key step is the front-end gap analysis, which should include interviews with material planners. This will result in the maximum gain for the company.
DCS can help you with the comprehensive change, which you can customize for each customer.
Have you encountered a demand from a customer for these changes? How so? What went well? What took more effort than expected?
