DCS Stabilizes Manufacturer’s EDI

The Business Need

LCI is a North Carolina-based manufacturer and distributor. They manufacture over 2,000 unique products ranging from mattresses and file folders to chemical lightsticks. LCI is dedicated to employing and empowering people who are blind. LCI was having issues with their Gentran Server system, facing network slowness, system errors, and document loss. They sought a solution to stabilize their current system and explore a more reliable migration path. Having previously worked with Data Communication Solutions (DCS), LCI turned to us for assistance.

The DCS Solution: Expert Troubleshooting and EDI System Upgrade

DCS worked closely with LCI to troubleshoot and stabilize their EDI operations. Our comprehensive approach included:

• Troubleshooting Network and SQL Issues: DCS identified and mitigated the causes of network slowness and issues with the outdated SQL system by optimizing settings and schedules.
• Document Protection: LCI was unknowingly losing documents due to timing issues. DCS added processes to safeguard documents that had not yet been processed.
• EDI Document Tracking: Due to the complex setup, it was difficult for LCI to track successful document transmissions. We adjusted the system to enable 997 acknowledgments, improving visibility of document status.

In addition to stabilizing their existing system, DCS built a new EDI system on an updated server, ensuring greater reliability and scalability. We also provided comprehensive training to LCI’s internal EDI team, empowering them to resolve issues and perform development work independently.

The Result

As a result of DCS’ efforts, LCI now operates a stable EDI system with a deeper understanding of its processes. They are transitioning to DCS’ Managed Services, where we continue to provide system support, maintenance, and development assistance.
