The Challenge

Carling Technologies, a global manufacturer of switches, controls, and circuit breakers, faced significant inefficiencies in its United Kingdom office due to manual order processing. Managing EDIFACT transactions manually led to frequent discrepancies, delays, and a heavy administrative burden. To enhance accuracy and streamline operations, Carling needed to implement new EDIFACT maps for key European trading partners—including Volvo Europe, Renault, and DAF—while also automating document handling and improving integration with its ERP system, JDE.

The DCS Solution

DCS provided a comprehensive EDI solution tailored to Carling’s needs, which included:

• Developing Custom EDIFACT Maps – Created new EDIFACT maps to facilitate seamless order transactions with key trading partners.
• Implementing Automated Order Processing – Designed a two-step mapping process for DELFORs to generate both purchase orders (POs) and planning schedules, using date conditions to distinguish current vs. future orders.
• Enhancing Workflow Automation – Developed PowerShell scripts to:
  • Read inbound EDI documents and generate customized email notifications with order summaries.
  • Rename files automatically based on location, improving organization and tracking.
  • Eliminate JavaScript dependencies for Julian Date conversions, simplifying data processing.
• Optimizing JDE Integration – Rebuilt Carling’s JDE maps to remove outdated Tag Tables, improving efficiency and processing speed.
• Empowering the UK Subsidiary – Enabled the UK team to verify document integrity, send transactions via BizConnect, and confirm receipt through their VAN, increasing operational independence.

The Result

By partnering with DCS, Carling Technologies successfully automated its order processing system, reducing errors, minimizing manual work, and increasing efficiency. The improved EDI workflows allowed the company to focus on expanding its customer base while maintaining seamless B2B integration.
