DCS Helps Food Producer with Cost-Efficient EDI

Business Need

Wholesome is a Texas-based importer of fair trade and organic sweeteners.  They were expiring their old EDI translator, on SYSPRO’s EDI and shipping system, and wanted to move to more cost-efficient software.  This was where Data Communication Solutions (DCS) came in. 

The EDI Challenge

DCS’ job was to implement a new EDI translator and communication software so Wholesome could move past their old software.  EDI data that was already in production needed to be mimicked and new trading partners were to continue being added.

The gap analysis for this project required DCS to identify and replace all functionality of the existing EDI gateway within SYSPRO, including table look-ups for cross-reference information and scheduled processing.  DCS looked at EDI data, data in SYSPRO, database tables in SYSPRO, and XML schemas.

The DCS Solution

Changing Wholesome’s software entailed working with approximately 30 customers and trading partners.  Transactions sets included 810, 850, 855, 856, 875, 880, 940, and 945.  72 maps were created.  PDF printouts were automated to a folder so they could be picked up.

In order to ensure a successful crossover, parallel testing was done with the invoices to ensure that they matched Wholesome’s current EDI processes.  Testing of inbound orders required a test company created using SYSPRO.  Documentation and training were given.

Ultimately, DCS was able to automate processes and methods of searching inventory item numbers, learn SYSPRO, and automate inbound orders through the use of Wholesome’s XML schemas.  This ensured that Wholesome would be able to do AS2 direct communication, lowering VAN bills and personnel costs.
