Stabilizing TrustedLink and Scaling EDI Without Disruption

See how DCS helped a chemical distributor simplify complexity, improve accuracy, and gain control without replacing their existing system. In all, DCS provided measurable improvements to the distributor’s EDI processes including:

  • Optimized TrustedLink mappings to handle complex pricing and packaging scenarios
  • Configured JD Edwards EDI gateway rules for greater accuracy and control
  • Established reliable connectivity across multiple locations
  • Cleaned up legacy maps, scripts, and inactive trading partners
  • Supported TrustedLink upgrade and improved use of mapping tools
  • Guided testing and enabled internal team self-sufficiency

Challenge

With more than 35 percent of orders flowing through EDI, this organization depended on TrustedLink for iSeries (TLi) and JD Edwards to keep business moving. However, the environment became harder to manage overtime as increasing customer demands, rising operational costs, and rigid processes created ongoing friction. Internal teams were spending too much time troubleshooting issues and working around limitations.

The complexity of the business added another layer of difficulty. Products were priced by weight or volume but shipped in varying containers, making it challenging to ensure accurate pricing, promotional discounts, and special handling charges within EDI transactions.

They needed to improve and scale their EDI processes without disrupting daily operations or replacing their existing system.

Solution

DCS reviewed and optimized their existing TLi environment to enhance performance, flexibility, and reliability. Development and support included:

  • Upgraded TLi and mapper tool.
  • Outdated scripts, inactive trading partners were archived.
  • Established secure and dependable connections between multiple iSeries at headquarters and remote distribution centers.
  • Existing maps (850, 855, 856, 810 and 820) were refined to ensure accurate handling of pricing and charges.
  • Led testing for first three customers, then guided internal team through testing remaining 7 customers and map revision steps – providing successful knowledge transfer.

Result

The organization achieved a more automated, stable, and scalable EDI environment without interrupting business operations.

  • Reduced manual data entry and operational strain
  • Improved accuracy across pricing, discounts, and charges
  • Successful onboarding of multiple trading partners
  • Increased internal confidence and independence

Today, their TrustedLink and JD Edwards systems work seamlessly together, supporting efficient order to cash processes and positioning the business for continued growth.
