Customer Takes Advantage of DCS Support Service
Introduction
EDI was operating properly when the EDI Coordinator announced a medical leave would be necessary. The combination of SEEBURGER’S Business Integration Server™ and SAP E.C.C.™ 6.x meant process automation at this poultry producer performed smoothly. Over 150 grocers, food service, food producers, and brokers exchanged Sales Orders, Shipment Notices, and Invoices weekly. Most data transmission occurred using EDI INT AS2.
Overview
Management estimated that about 4 hours daily would be needed to monitor inbound Sales Orders in the morning, outbound Shipment Notices in the afternoon, and to respond to error alerts. As the estimate was calculated it became apparent that development for the inbound Remittance Advice for 20 customers and the addition of another 10 customers was underway. The choice was then between managed services to bridge the leave period or managed services plus development assistance. A complicating factor was the anticipated tighter budget for the next fiscal year.
Since a combination of managed service and development needs is common, DCS was able to readily offer a solution: both at a reduced rate. The managed services and development was and is being done by two DCS EDI Specialists, each able to fully perform the other’s tasks. As a plus, this means someone is always available to assist and there are zero days when the SEEBURGER processes are not closely monitored.
The budget for managed services was less than anticipated because the work is done on an hourly basis with no monthly minimum. Any troubleshooting repair likely to take more than 2 hours is not started without approval. This means that the operational expense is usually less than $500 weekly.
