TIE Commerce, Inc. delivers software that enable companies to achieve end-to-end data integration. For more than twenty years, several thousand companies have used TIE KinetixTM software to maximize profitability through automation. TIE Commerce products are especially well suited for Unix and Linux platforms.

Overview

Most TIE Commerce users focus upon accommodating Customers by receiving PO's, sending Shipment Notices and Invoices, and receiving Remittance Advices. The spEDI*mapTM and spEDI*tranTM products have a faithful following of users who are familiar with the products. The software is vastly different from the other brand name EDI translators, which can turn some users off. Those who know the product well though, enjoy the additional flexibility it offers. The spEDI*tran product is now getting phased out by the newer eVisionTM product, which has been called "spEDI*tran on steroids". It runs on the same spEDI*map base, but is even more robust, with more flexibility, including XML capability.

Moving low volume Customers, especially those buying supplies and parts, to an automated method using eVision means more conveniences for them and more sales for you. There are two ways to link. Surprisingly, many Customers use EDI, but have not been asked to do so by the Customer Service department. These are the easiest Customers to automate. Other Customers can be asked to use a Web Form, or send XML if they have eVision or spreadsheet data. The key is a continual, low-level rollout of the Customers to EDI processes. Later you can add transportation carriers and vendors.

Linking is less difficult today as most ERP and accounting systems have data import/export modules designed for newer EDI documents that are gaining popularity as well as traditional EDI documents. Typically these modules cost under $10,000. Also, DCS' experience with the modules and with your EDI system enables the first Carrier or Vendor to be set in a week or less. Adding the next ones becomes easier as the fields have already been linked in the first development, so subsequent Trading Partners take less and less time to set up. DCS can provide training in using the existing work to add subsequent Trading Partners and are always available for assistance when needed.

Conclusion

TIE Commerce products work well for their users, especially in a Unix environment. As an automation tool, it is underused. More integration means a capped head count, quicker business cycles, and allows the Customer Service, Logistics, and Purchasing staffs to focus on other challenges.
