Logistics Information Key Points
  • Manufacturer orders product to be shipped, needs to know what was shipped.  (Order Process)
  • Manufacturer needs to replace stock shipped from warehouse.  (Replenishment Process)
  • Manufacturer needs inventory information from the warehouse.
    (Inventory Report)

Order Process
  • Customer sends PO to manufacturer (EDI or other methods)
  • Manufacturer sends Shipment Order (940) to public warehouse. Goods are shipped to customer.
  • Manufacturer receives Shipment Advice (945) for shipment details (quantity, PRO number, etc).
  • Manufacturer sends Shipment Notice (ASN, 856) and Invoice (810) using data from the 945.
  • Note: The customer does not order directly from the public warehouse.

Replenishment Process
  • Manufacturer sends Warehouse Stock Transfer Shipment Advice (943).  This alerts the public warehouse that goods are coming to the warehouse.
  • Manufacturer receives W.S.T. Receipt Advice (944).  This tell the manufacturer that the shipment received by public warehouse was undamaged (or learns details for a freight claim.

Inventory Report
  • Manufacturer receives a Warehouse Inventory Advice (947) to keep track of the stock levels in the public warehouse.


  • Inventory at any location must be cycle counted.  Damaged goods must also be reported.  As the public warehouse is remote and an independent company reporting must be clear, accurate, and timely.
